The North American Newcastle Team Needs Your Support!

The Newcastle Scottish Country Dance Festival is an annual international celebration of Scottish Country Dance. This historic celebration has been happening for 40 years, with around 300 dancers participating each year.

In 2024 the North American Team made their debut at the festival, with 12 dancers, half from the U.S. and half from Canada. The team entered in three categories, Ladies, Mixed, and Display, with excellent results, tying for 2nd place in Ladies and taking 3rd place in Mixed.

The North American team is proud to be going for the second year in a row! For the 2025 festival our team includes 25 dancers from as far southwest as San Diego, northeast to Ottawa, southeast to Charleston, and northwest to Vancouver. We represent 9 U.S. states and 2 Canadian provinces.

As you can imagine, arranging for a team of 25 to meet for rehearsals and perform for the festival is not easy, nor is it inexpensive. You can help support us by donating to our team. All monies raised will be used for the team's practice venues, team t-shirts/polos, and musicians' recordings, estimated to be $4,000 USD. Any additional funds raised will go towards team members' travel and lodging expenses. Our total fundraising goal is $10,000 USD.

Participation in this festival is a fantastic opportunity for the North American Team dancers to meet and dance with the international SCD community, allowing cross-pollination of dance ideas and techniques, as well as bringing people together for the love of the dance we all share. We will learn from each other and continue to grow bridges across the miles through the art and beauty of Scottish dance.
